At Avasara Leadership Fellows, we supplement what the students are learning in school with an emphasis on values and leadership. We hope to create women leaders who are able to impact their communities. We believe that all have leadership potential and leadership can be learned.
To create leaders of good character, we introduced the students to the core Avasara values in the Leadership and Entrepreneurship class. Students learnt about Excellence, Perseverance, Empathy, Integrity, Confidence and Being Reflective. Over the last 10 weeks, students watched relevant videos, reflected and made connections. They also shared their views and experiences through guided group discussions.
However, as Jane Austin has rightly said, “It isn’t what we say or think that defines us, but what we do.” Thus we decided to assess the students to see if they have started to imbibe the Avasara core values in their interactions with their peers. We had two exciting team building games to assess the students and also reinforce the core values.
Here are some pictures of the students working together and their reflections on how they exhibited these values in their teams.
The Paper Chain Activity where students had to make the longest chain.
These young leaders show a lot of promise. We hope to see them as agents of change in their own families and the community.
