New beginnings

Today we welcomed our new eighth standard students to ALF.  Sixty excited young girls and their parents spent three hours with us this afternoon hearing more about the program, and working their way through a list of tasks to get ready for Monday.

We’re looking forward to working with these lovely students.  We believe that starting with students in eighth standard (rather than ninth standard, as we have for the last two years) will result in ALF having an even greater impact on student learning.

The last few days have been busy with logistics, such as arranging transportation for students, organising students into learning groups and advisor groups, getting t-shirts for students, etc.  The real work begins on Monday, as we introduce these girls to new ways of learning and thinking about the world around them.

Meanwhile, our graduated students await the results of their 10th Standard Board examinations, which will be released this week, and which will largely determine which college girls may attend for 11th and 12th standard.
