ALF is now on a short Christmas break, and students return on 2nd January. The weather is cooling ever so slightly, and vendors have started selling Santa hats, tinsel and stars. Though it’s only a few weeks since our last party-related post, we had to share about the last week before the holidays began.
A group of girls at ALF were especially excited about organising a party to get students to know one another more, and so they organised a Secret Santa gift exchange–with a twist. Girls picked the name of another girl randomly, and had to send notes of encouragement to her in the four days leading to the actual Secret Santa gift exchange. Girls were very excited about preparing secret notes for each other, and loved trying to guess the identity of their Secret Santa.
This was a wonderful opportunity for girls to show love and care towards one another and extend the hand of friendship–especially so for our new 8th Standard class, who have been with us for just three weeks.
We were very proud of the way our “Party Planning” group organised the Secret Santa and the party, and of how thoughtfully they planned activities that would not only be fun, but community-building, as well. In seemingly small things like this, our Fellows continue to develop their leadership skills… let’s see what they will do in 2014!
