Do you remember your first interview? Today feelings of anticipation, excitement and nervousness were palpable at ALF as forty prospective Avasara Leadership Fellows and their parents came to our first Admission Day of the year. This is an event when parents and prospective Fellows get to see our wonderful teaching facilities, meet the Avasara team, and meet other prospective Fellows and their parents. It’s also an important time for us to meet prospective students, and interview and assess them to see if they would be a good fit for ALF–we are keen to admit girls who are excited about learning and leadership, and who are in need of further academic challenge and direction.
Before the formal start of the Admission Day, girls come in with their parents, register, have some tea and meet other candidates before the main part of the day begins.
First, Executive Director Mangala addressed parents, informing them about ALF and answering the many questions they had. This year we were lucky enough to have assistance from current Avasara Leadership Fellows, who were responsible for leading the icebreaker activities, leading question-and-answer sessions with candidates, and being around to answer parents’ questions when the Avasara team was busy with interviews and assessment.
Then girls go through a process of an ice-breaker activity, an English assessment, a Maths assessment, a discussion and an interview.
Meanwhile, parents and siblings wait, ask questions, and meet each other.
Now, an anxious time for the girls as they wait to find out whether they got through–and for our team, hours of deliberations ahead. This was the first of three Admission Days for this round of Admissions. The whole team agreed it was a joyous day–we loved having our current students promote ALF, and it was thrilling to see and hear them interacting so confidently with both candidates and parents. We are very, very proud of them!
